about

Barriers is founded to eliminate the language and socio-economic barriers to participating in MUN conferences in Thailand where English language education is still often limited to international schools or to urban students. This is despite the fact that most MUNs in Thailand are conducted in English. The unique terminology required for MUN also complicates training for second-language learners who may already be reluctant to use a foreign language in an unfamilar settings like it.

We firmly believe that MUN should be a platform where a diverse set of ideas and people can interact.

Hence, Barrier MUN will offer a unique conference experience aimed at breaking down language barriers. We will be implementing both the local Thai language and the normal operating language of English will be used in our upcoming conferences to ensure maximum accessibility to MUN conferences who those who have limited access to foreign language education.

Barriers also reaches out to local schools to provide activities and resources for public speaking/debate and understanding global issues which are prerequisites to MUNs, especially in a foreign language. Interested schools and clubs can contact us directly for sessions and long-term collaboration. We also have other resources aimed at supporting newly established clubs and new delegates available on our educational resources page. This includes club training material and research skill resources needed for pre-conference preparations. Additionally, we also host an annual conference where Thai is a working language to include non-English language speakers. To fulfill our mission, the resources will be made available in both Thai and English.
